Razor Clamming is a popular event that happens during select times of the year due to easier access to the coast line. Upwards of 300,000 people have gone razor clam digging in the last years, though that has decreased greatly due to clam populations decreasing in number.
This is why now there are only select days one can go Razor Clamming, so that the population of these meaty shellfish won't wane anymore than it already has. It is also regulated to help reduce contact with toxins that can be found in the razor clams at certain periods.
